Forest fires raging in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand
Dozens of homes were destroyed and thousands of people in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand to be evacuated due to raging forest fires. The government has declared a state of emergency.

Christchurch City officials said the day 16-2 at the Port Hills area located east of the city, the fire has covered more than 1,800 hectares area. About 1,000 people were evacuated.
The forecast high winds would cause the fire broke out louder. Authorities have warned people to run as soon as the danger signs.
"We understand people are very difficult to leave their homes, but the fire can spread very fast and change direction," Ash Tabb police officer said. "If you're worried, go before it is too late, better to be safe than to regret it."

According to AFP, the fires have created thick smoke screen above Christchurch, and those people have respiratory diseases are advised to stay indoors.
So far one person died after a helicopter crashed Thursday 15-2 firefighting pilots killed Steve Askin.
Currently 14 helicopters and three aircraft are continuing against "enemy fire" and about 200 firefighters. About 45 pumps and tankers were mobilized, while the police and the army to be ready for emergencies.
In New Zealand's rare large forest fires due to rain here often prevent the fire from spreading.
