Located in the Botanical Gardens next Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Hooghly River, India, 'Great Banyan Tree' is a famous old tree over 250 years old and spanning tree as a small forest.

According to the Indian press, 'Great Banyan Tree' is a banyan tree (Hindi called Peepal tree) that lived more than 250 years. Docs say is covered trees on an area of about 18.900m2 and more than 3,700 secondary roots deep into the ground plug.
The main body of the tree with a diameter of up to 15,5m, but was cut down in the nineteenth century and rotting due to illness after the catch to two major storms.
The Times of India said this banyan tree is also the witness of one of the bloodiest periods in the struggle for Indian independence.
"During the first war of independence, hundreds of soldiers fighting for freedom was hanged on this Peepal tree", academicians and writer Indramani Tyagi said.
In place of the dead trunk, authorities have erected a monument but visitors almost inaccessible when they only reached the outer ring of the tree via the long way around the tree hugging 330m.
