Vietnam strong political commitment to combat climate change

TT - The COP21 conference on climate change prevention, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had bilateral meetings with the leaders of 24 countries.

Speaking at the 21 th Conference of the Framework Convention of the United Nations on Climate Change (COP21), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed the successful implementation of Agenda 2030 for the sustainable development of the United Nations requires countries to have strong political determination and close cooperation in the strict implementation and full and effective global climate agreement after 2020.

Speaking before 150 heads of state and leaders of international organizations represent 196 COP21 participants, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stated:

"We are present at COP21 conference to express commitment to support and accelerate the process of negotiations and through a global climate agreement after 2020. The contents of the agreement to ensure a fair contribution between countries and a balance in the content of mitigation, adaptation, finance, development and technology transfer ...

Developed countries should take the lead in implementing their commitments, and to support and strengthen the capacity of developing countries to work together to successfully implement the agreement. "

The Prime Minister also confirmed strong political commitment of the Government of Vietnam to continue with the international community to join hands to attempt to cope with climate change.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that from now until 2020, in the difficult conditions in terms of resources but Vietnam continued to actively implement the strategy, program, plan to respond to climate change in many areas with practical measures; strictly implement the obligations in the Convention of the United Nations Framework on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol.

Demonstrated commitment by concrete action, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will contribute $ 1 million to the Green Climate Fund for the period 2016-2020.

For the period after 2020, the Prime Minister stated, although a developing country more difficult, severely affected by climate change, Vietnam has committed to an 8% drop in greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 and may fall to 25% if received effective support from the international community. Vietnam will be reviewed periodically, adapted to their actual conditions.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed: "The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The successful implementation of Agenda 2030 requires us to have strong political will and close cooperation in the strict implementation and full and effective global climate agreement after 2020 ".

Chaired the high-level dialogue "Vietnam join hands with international partners to respond to the challenges of climate change in the Mekong Delta," Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that Vietnam always top priority for regional development in the Mekong River delta oriented and sustainable synthesis.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had bilateral meetings with the leaders of 24 countries.

Inquiry aims feasible

At the summit, India announced the Solar Alliance, with the participation of 120 countries, including developed countries and developing countries to promote cooperation and exploitation of solar energy more efficiently.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the alliance as "Sunshine hope for clean energy sources."
