Saigon's largest high school girls 100 years ago

Established in 1918, Marie Curie High School (District 3, HCMC) has been known as the largest high school in Vietnam with more than 5,000 students per year.

Marie Curie High School was established in 1918, originally called French Student Elementary School (EPS des JF Francaises), which teaches French courses only to French girls and a few Vietnamese come from rich families, noble.

The school has an area of more than 21,000 m2, designed in French architecture from greetings, gardens, fountains, classrooms ... In 2015, the school is recognized by the HCM City Historical Monuments - culture - landscapes of the city.

In the years 1941-1946, the school changed its name twice, once became a hospital for the Japanese military and concentration camps French Navy. In 1948, the school was named Marie Curie, named after the physicist, Polish-French chemist, who also won two Nobel Prizes.

Formerly a private school for girls, in 1970 the new school added more boys. Today, the school becomes a public high school.

At one point, the school received over 5,000 pupils per year and became the largest high school in Vietnam. Currently, in order to increase the quality of education, the school has reduced the number of students, with nearly 3,500 students, distributed between 74 and 77 classes.

The campus has 55 classrooms and many useful rooms such as library, computer room, laboratory, multifunctional sports hall ...

Outstanding architecture in the school is eight blocks of bold French architecture. However, the C-block has seriously deteriorated, being proposed to be dismantled, restored to its original state.

A wooden staircase system nearly 100 years old in block A is intact.

The prominent wooden windows on the golden wall create a spacious open space for the school. "I love sitting by the window to admire the school grounds, feeling the greenness of trees and ancient gold walls," Ngoc Tran, a 12th grade student, shared.

The corridors at block B are almost intact from the color of the paint to the layout of the doorways.

A turquoise, mossy water tower still stands on campus.

According to the management board of Marie Curie High School, on November 17, 1818, the school will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its founding. At present, to improve the quality of teaching and learning, the school continues to invest in modern equipment, good teachers, and promote cooperation and exchange with the delegations of teachers and students from American, French, Singapore and Japanese high schools.
