China Eastern's MU765 plane departing from Nanjing this morning crashed and landed on the runway in Hong Kong, China, according to SCMP.
The plane landed in heavy rain with limited visibility. One passenger said the plane had to cancel its first landing, fly in circles and landed again. "I felt trembling when the plane hit the ground," he said.
Hong Kong Airport officials said 141 people aboard were not injured after the incident. However, the incident caused the airport to be paralyzed for nearly two hours, 50 flights arrived and 59 flights were delayed. The plane was then towed, the northern runway of the airport reopened at 12:40 pm.
A spokesman for the Civil Aviation Department of Hong Kong said the front and rear wheels of the plane slipped off the concrete runway, lying on grass. The plane was rotated 180 degrees after the crash.
According to Hong Kong authorities, the incident is more likely due to pilot error or limited vision. Authorities are continuing to investigate the case.
