How effective are the Chinese counterfeiters?
The weapons magazine claims that Beijing's counterfeit guns, once again, are replicas of other countries.

On May 17, information appeared that China put anti-piracy guns illegally on the rocks of the Spratly Islands of Vietnam. How does this work and what does China have in mind when it comes to Spratly Islands?

According to China's Ministry of Defense, the anti-piracy gun is designated as CS / AR-1 by China's Norinco. It was first debuted at the 2014 Zhuhai (China) Airshow.
China's Global Times then voiced threats, stressing that CS / AR-1 would be a weapon of terror for those countries intent on harassing Beijing in the South China Sea.
According to the Norinco manufacturer, the CS / AR-1 can be installed on most Chinese naval vessels. A complete CS / AR-1 system of 10 launchers and control equipment.

Both English and Chinese versions of Norinco's webpage do not contain any references or detailed descriptions of CS / AR-1's tactical features.
But according to the information provided by the manufacturer at the 2014 show, the CS / AR-1 system is capable of 360-degree rotation, with a firing angle of -30 to 70 degrees.
The system is modular, ie it can be removed and replaced individually in case of evacuation or maintenance.
The Norinco side advertises the entire CS / AR-1 system is controlled via a digital control panel to increase the accuracy and speed of response. It is unclear whether the system is equipped with a sensor or a combat management system (CMS).
The CS / AR-1 can fire a 55 mm (HE) projectile-tipped ammunition, with a maximum range of 500m. This type of warhead, when fired in water, can create an explosion that can injure or even kill a frog within its blast radius.
The manufacturer declined to comment on the CS / AR-1 development process, saying only that it had been designed in the last few years.

However, based on its external appearance and operating mechanism, the CS / AR-1 is a "perfect" replica of the Russian-made DP-65 replica grenade launcher.
The DP-65A was developed and manufactured by V.A. Degtyarev of Russia since 1991. This system is deployed on warships and coastal defense works, against the intrusion of clones.
The only difference between the DP-65 and the CS / AR-1, according to IHS Jane's defense magazine, is probably the angle of rotation and the type of ammunition used. China has copied and improved so that CS / AR-1 has a much wider angle of rotation than the original version.
According to IHS Jane's, China has purchased DP-65A systems from Russia and installed it on some warships. In 2012, the DP-65 was seen on a Chinese warship near the Viet Kung area.

Talking to Tuoi Tre, a weapons researcher, any weapon, no matter how modern, has weaknesses and modifications.

Until now, there is still no detail on China's CS / AR-1 system, but it can be speculated on the original DP-65.
It should be understood that the firing angle will affect the range of the bullet. CS / AR-1 and DP-65 have similar firing angles (DP-65A: -38 to 48 degrees, CS / AR-1: -30 to 70 degrees) so the maximum range and minimum range will be equivalent. together.
With such an angle of cut, the original version of the DP-65 has a range of 50-500m, so it is possible to speculate that the range of CS / AR-1 replicas is within the same range.
That also means that if the clones pass safely from the minimum range of CS / AR-1 (less than 50m), the system will not work.
IHS Jane's magazine commented: CS / AR-1's combat effectiveness is still a question mark and depends on many factors such as depth and water conditions.
CS / AR-1 will only be useful in shallow waters where the working environment of the fighter is significantly limited and the HE warhead can maximize its impact.
However, this is just an objective assessment, until now it is not yet known exactly what China uses the HE warheads for CS / AR-1. This is important, because the ammunition used will determine the depth and range of damage.
Take Russia's DP-65 as an example. The system is capable of firing RG-55M and RGS-55s. Particularly for the RG-55M, it can kill 40 mph dives at depths of 16 meters.
The Russian DP-65 system uses the ANAPA-ME sonar (sonar) to automatically detect targets that are fake or destructive devices of the enemy. This type of sonar will direct the fire system to the target area. There is no information on the type of sonar used by China or how CS / AR-1 detected the target.
