Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam said that Vietnam has made remarkable progress in science and technology in recent years.

Deputy Prime Minister said that the number of works published in scientific journals recognized by the ISI Institute of Vietnam in the past 5-6 years increased by more than 20%, but only 1/3 of Thailand, 1/4 Malaysia, 1/5 Singapore. Patent granted by Vietnam is up 60% per year, but only 1/3 of Thailand, 1/11 Malaysia, 1/30 Singapore, 1/1240 of Korea and 1/3170 of China.

In 2017, the Ministry of Science and Technology awarded Ta Quang Buu to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Sum (Quy Nhon University) and Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Son Nam (Polytechnic University, Vietnam National University HCMC).
Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Sum presented the Mathematical Engineering Award "On Peterson's Hit Problem".
Prof. Dr. Phan Thanh Son Nam is the lead author of the paper "Synthesis of propargylamine from N-methylaniline and lead alkyne via methylation and direct activation of CH link using Cu2 (BDC) 2 (DABCO) catalyzed ".
Both works were studied in the country.
