66-year-old albatross still spawn


Biologists discovered a roof Laysan albatrosses despite 66 years continues to spawn. It is said to be the oldest living albatrosses in the world today.

According to The Guardian, the Laysan albatross named Wisdom roof was detected in wildlife centers Midway Atoll (US) earlier this month after it back here to nest.

It is said to be 66 years old and is the oldest birds are breeding in the wild. Up to now, it has dozens of chicks.

US officials said conservation for more than 60 years, it will return to Midway in the breeding season. An ornithologist was the first time in 1956 recognizes it.

Laysan albatross (North Pacific albatross immutabilis scientific name) is a large seabird species widely distributed throughout the north Pacific albatross species, and is the second most common in the Hawaiian Islands, with an estimated number of 2.5 million alcohol.

Laysan albatross black-gray fur in the back, wings, tail, while underneath the wings and belly are white. They have an average length of 81cm, weighing between 2,4-4,1kg males, females 1.9 to 3.6 kg.

Reproductive roof seagulls when at least 7-8 years of age. Each period of reproduction it lays an egg and last only males incubate, for food for their children.

International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has classified Laysan albatross endangered species is going to decline due to strong population, but recent studies show that the number of them may be in recovery. Thank you for leaving valuable comments
