Large fire destroyed the Vietnamese market in Australia


More than 70 firefighters took more than 6 hours to control the large fire occurred in a popular market area of the Vietnamese in Australia today.

According to ABC, the fire broke out at about 6:30, while traders are preparing to open a new day for sale in Little Saigon Market in Footscray, a suburb west of the city of Melbourne.

Fire is believed to stem from the cold room and quickly spread, covered bazaar, radiating dark black smoke. The surrounding streets blocked and people are asked to close all the doors.

More than 70 firefighters were deployed.

Vietnam's market with 25 small establishments including restaurants, a bakery and an Asian market selling fruits, vegetables, food, cakes, fruits and many other items but all were burned.

Les Twentyman, a fund for difficult teenagers, also has offices closed on the top floor of the market. Mr. Les Twentyman, founder of the fund, said it had lost books, clothes and Christmas gifts for homeless children worth tens of thousands of dollars.

"This is not just a building that everyone's livelihood was destroyed in a critical moment," Mr Twentyman said.

An unnamed traders said recently he had to sleep in the car to spend money renovating stores. "Everything is burned, everything that I effort," he said.

Jennifer Vo, a pub owner, said she estimated losses 200,000 AUD.

"I am very sad. We lost all sources of income. We have invested heavily for Christmas, all of which are new goods," she said.

Loc Lam, who co-owns the market for over 20 years, believes that the cause of the fire was electrical. He said the fire caused huge damage and serious impacts to the Vietnamese community in the locality. He pledged to rebuild the market, but this can take years.

Little Saigon Market insured AUD 8 million, but according to estimates, the damage caused by fire can leave more than 12 million AUD.
